How HORISEN and Arelion support each other across messaging technology, connectivity, security and signalling

Every message handled by a platform depends on much more than the platform itself.

Behind it sits an infrastructure of data centers, Internet service providers, global connectivity, security and signalling connections. Most of that infrastructure remains invisible when everything is working as it should. But invisibility does not make it any less important.

At HORISEN, availability is not simply an infrastructure target. It is a promise to every customer running business-critical messaging traffic through our technology.

Keeping that promise across a multi-data center, multi-ISP environment requires more than capacity. It requires stable global connectivity, protection that can stop malicious traffic before it reaches our environment and partners whose technology and teams perform consistently over time. That is where Arelion comes in.

7 Fantastic Use Cases for SMS

Reliability Starts Before the Platform

When people think about messaging performance, attention naturally goes to the platform: how traffic is routed, how quickly messages are processed, how operations are monitored and how the technology responds under load. All of that matters. But the platform can only perform consistently when the infrastructure around it does the same.

HORISEN operates across multiple data centers and Internet service providers to build resilience into the environment supporting our messaging platforms. Within that model, Arelion provides two capabilities that are integral to our infrastructure: Tier-1 IP Transit and backbone-based DDoS Mitigation.

Arelion’s global backbone gives us the reach and capacity needed to maintain stable, high-performance connectivity across our environment. At the same time, automated threat detection and backbone-level traffic scrubbing help stop malicious traffic before it can reach HORISEN’s infrastructure.

The location of that protection matters. Threats are addressed within the network rather than being left to reach the platform environment first. For our teams, this adds an important security layer without introducing unnecessary operational complexity.

For customers, the outcome is simpler: stable platform performance, high availability and confidence that their messaging operations remain protected around the clock.

Good infrastructure does its work before the customer ever needs to think about it.

One Environment. Several Layers of Resilience.

No single component creates resilience on its own. It comes from the way multiple layers work together: data-center architecture, more than one Internet service provider, global network reach, security controls, continuous monitoring and people who respond when something requires attention.

This is why our choice of infrastructure partners cannot be based on connectivity alone. Network expertise matters. Security capability matters. Operational consistency matters. And responsive technical support matters, particularly when the infrastructure is supporting messaging operations that do not stop outside office hours.

Arelion’s role fits into this wider design. Its IP Transit and DDoS Mitigation services strengthen the reach, resilience and security of our multi-data center environment, while its proactive technical support gives our teams confidence that the partnership extends beyond the service itself.

“Reliable connectivity combined with top-tier security is rare, but Arelion delivers both flawlessly across our multiple data center environment. In a multi-ISP environment like ours, they are a vital component in keeping our infrastructure resilient and secure.” – Nemanja Miljkovic, CIO at HORISEN.

The Partnership Does Not Stop at IP

Connectivity between data centers and the wider Internet is one side of the relationship. Global messaging also depends on another network that usually remains out of sight: signalling.

SS7 signalling enables critical functions behind mobile communication. For HORISEN’s SCCP Signalling Service, the quality of the service depends not only on our own technology, but also on the carriers providing the underlying signalling connectivity.

Stability, routing flexibility and low latency are therefore not secondary considerations. They directly influence the quality of signalling service we can provide to our customers. Arelion has been a trusted SCCP signalling partner for HORISEN for many years and is one of the carriers contributing to the multi-carrier model behind the HORISEN SCCP Signalling Service.

Through that model, customers can connect to trusted signalling partners through a single HORISEN connection. They gain reliable SS7 connectivity and greater routing flexibility without having to establish and manage every carrier relationship separately.

Our technology brings the connections together. The quality of each carrier network helps determine how well the entire service performs.

That is why long-term experience matters. Arelion’s stable network performance, security and technical support have given us confidence that our customers’ signalling traffic can be handled consistently and with minimal delay.

From Supplier to Two-Way Partner

Many technology partnerships have clearly defined sides. One company provides the service. The other uses it. The relationship between HORISEN and Arelion is different.

HORISEN relies on Arelion across key areas of our infrastructure and signalling ecosystem. At the same time, Arelion uses the HORISEN SMS Platform to support its own messaging business. That changes the nature of the partnership.

Both companies experience the other’s technology in real-world operations. Both understand that performance, reliability and support are not abstract product claims; they directly affect the services each company provides to its own customers.

Using each other’s technology creates a level of understanding that is difficult to achieve through a conventional supplier relationship. Discussions are grounded in operational experience. Expectations are shaped by what both sides need from technology running in live environments. Trust is built not only through contracts and service descriptions, but through consistent performance over time.

Each company is a provider. Each company is also a customer.

Technology Is Only Part of Reliability

A global backbone can provide reach. DDoS Mitigation can add protection. Signalling connectivity can create access to mobile networks. A messaging platform can route, manage and monetize traffic. But a long-term technology partnership also depends on what happens around those capabilities.

It depends on whether teams respond. Whether technical expertise is available when it is needed. Whether performance remains consistent after implementation. And whether both sides continue adapting as networks, threats and messaging requirements evolve.

This has been an important part of our experience with Arelion. The value lies not only in the individual services, but in the combination of network expertise, proactive support and operational reliability across several areas of cooperation.

For HORISEN, that combination helps us protect something larger than infrastructure: the continuity of the messaging businesses running on our technology.

A Stronger Foundation for What Comes Next

Messaging ecosystems are becoming more interconnected.

Platforms depend on networks. Networks depend on signalling. Security has to extend across infrastructure boundaries. And the quality experienced by the end customer is shaped by technologies and partners working far beyond a single interface.

In that environment, resilience cannot be added as an isolated feature. It has to be built across the ecosystem.

Our partnership with Arelion already connects several of those layers: IP Transit, DDoS Mitigation, SCCP signalling and the HORISEN SMS Platform. Together, they support secure infrastructure, reliable connectivity and messaging operations on both sides of the relationship.

That is what makes the partnership valuable to us.

It is not simply that HORISEN uses Arelion’s services, or that Arelion uses HORISEN’s technology. It is that both companies understand what the other is responsible for keeping operational.

And that creates a strong foundation for growing the cooperation as global messaging continues to evolve.

“What makes this partnership particularly valuable is that it goes both ways. HORISEN relies on Arelion’s services across key areas of our infrastructure, while Arelion uses HORISEN’s SMS Platform for its own messaging business. Using each other’s technology in real-world operations gives us a deeper understanding of our respective solutions and creates a level of trust that goes beyond a traditional supplier relationship. It is a strong foundation for growing our cooperation further.” – Fabrizio Salanitri, CEO at HORISEN.
